Bigger....better...beautiful?

The impact of EU enlargement on cultural opportunities across Europe

14-17 February 2002, Budapest, Hungary

The Budapest Observatory, a CIRCLE member, and two co-organisers produced a conference in Budapest in February 2002, regarding the cultural aspect of the enlargement of the European Union. CIRCLE was invited to organise a plenary session on Cultural Collaboration In Civil Society; networks, non-profit organisations and workshop sessions which followed. A number of experts from CIRCLE were invited to participate these and many other of the conference sessions.

The conference was aimed to address:

- the prospects of expanding the cultural links and interaction amongst the proposed 27 (or even more) members
- the need to support and sustain cultural diversity, through - among others - fostering identity at national, regional and local level
- the impact of the enlargement on all-European cultural integrity, as well as on global issues.
